SPECIFICATION / BUYING GUIDE
A useful RFQ starts beyond the nominal width
Keep the component, strap system and delivery requirement in one clear buying brief.
Give the part an unambiguous identity
A request for a wire buckle at one nominal width can describe several different components. Start with the YAKU part number where available. Add the wire diameter, finish and any drawing reference with its revision. For a clip or seal, include the profile and dimensions that distinguish it from a similar-looking item. A photograph is useful context, but it should not replace the agreed dimensional specification.
If you are replacing an existing part, say whether the requirement is a like-for-like replacement or a proposed change. Keep the existing sample and drawing identified separately from any alternative offered. This makes the engineering review easier and prevents the original reference from quietly changing during purchasing.
Describe the connection as a system
State the strap material and construction, nominal width, thickness where relevant, tensioning method and closing tool. Explain what is being packed and whether the component will be used on a production line, at a packing station or in an export package. Do not infer a system rating from buckle appearance or wire diameter alone.
Where performance evidence is required, describe the test method, acceptance criteria and exact strap-and-component combination. Ask what documentation is available for the proposed supply. An unspecified strength field means the information needs confirmation; it is not a rating for the complete package.
Make the commercial brief equally precise
State quantity and unit for each part, sample needs and expected repeat buying separately. Include the purchasing entity, invoice details and complete receiving address. Tell us whether the requested delivery point is a port, terminal, warehouse or factory. Agree the quoted delivery term, documentation, packing and schedule in writing. Before placing the order, check that the quotation, sample approval and purchase order describe the same revision and quantities.
Assign one person to consolidate the final buying brief. Keep questions, answers and proposed changes together rather than spreading them across separate messages. Before accepting the quotation, send the consolidated reference back to the supplier and ask for confirmation that all open technical and commercial points have been addressed.
WORKED DECISION / CATALOGUE REFERENCES
Keep the clip’s identity together.
Nominal strap width, sheet thickness and carton contents describe different aspects of the same reference. Put them beside its part number in the enquiry.
Part number
YK-SC-16- Nominal strap width
- 16 mm
- Sheet thickness
- 0.50 mm
- Pieces per carton
- 800
Next, ask for the intended clip profile or drawing and describe the strap and closing tool. These catalogue dimensions alone do not approve the proposed combination.
Catalogue values identify the reference. Application suitability and current supply require confirmation with the quotation.
